Doubling someone’s salary has “minimal impact” on happiness

Most of the discussions around happiness assume a linear positive relationship between money and happiness. People unconsciously assume that the more money you have the happier you will be, but actual research has proven time and again that this is not true. In another research, it is claimed that even if your salary doubles, it would not have much impact on your happiness. On the other hand, if you get a partner, it would increase your happiness substantially.

Even mental disorders have a significant impact on your happiness in the negative side. So does losing a partner.

The article argues that the government needs to understand the real variables that impact happiness and try and provide people with policies that impact the real factors and should avoid trying to just maximize the income of people.
